As authors are wont to do, [livejournal.com profile] kafkonia, [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, [livejournal.com profile] stillsostrange and I have started a group blog. Unlike all the other writer group blogs in the world, it is not about pimping our books, talking about being writers, or talking about the writing process.

It is about catwaxing.*

Do visit us sometime. *g*

*For the uninitiated, catwaxing is all the shit we do to avoid doing our damned work. Bear wrote an exegesis thereof here.
I was by the bookstore today after work, and one of the upshots of that visit is that both Clockwork Phoenix and Clockwork Phoenix 2 are available there now. Both have stories from me, "Bell, Book and Candle", and "Six" respectively, and the second anthology also has fiction from local heroes [livejournal.com profile] handful_ofdust and Stephen Barringer and less-local-but-still-Canadian hero Claude Lalumiere.

One of the other upshots of the visit is that I have The City and the City, Eyes Like Stars, and Spook Country in my bag. This is probably neither here nor there for you, though, unless you're [livejournal.com profile] lisamantchev, in which case I can has your book.

More after supper!
There is new Shadow Unit.

Go read that while I finish fixing up this scene. *g*
[livejournal.com profile] time_shark informs that both Amazon and Barnes and Noble have Clockwork Phoenix 2 in stock, even though the official release date is July 1. This shiny book includes fiction from Claude Lalumiere, [livejournal.com profile] swan_tower, Ian McHugh, [livejournal.com profile] ann_leckie, [livejournal.com profile] maryrobinette, Saladin Ahmed, Tanith Lee, Joanna Galbraith, [livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna, [livejournal.com profile] experimeditor, [livejournal.com profile] handful_ofdust and Stephen J. Barringer, Kelly Barnhill, Barbara Krasnoff, and Steve Rasnic Tem, as well as my "Six", which you all may know as the story about gardening, roof-sheep, and the apocalypse.

It got a really shiny review from Publishers Weekly. I think you should read it.

That is all.
Tonight I am knitting and obsessively following political news, so I give you this for content:

[livejournal.com profile] ksumnersmith has set up an Etsy shop for some of her jewelery (and other things to come). I endorse this to the point that I commissioned a pair of earrings like the Nautilus ones, but green.

If you are gift-looking for people who like shiny things, these are things that are veritably shiny and meet and pleasing to my eye.

And now, I return to knitting and reading news with a 0.o expression on my face.

Thud: Sugar

November 3, 2008 Progress Notes:

"Sugar"

Words today: 250.
Words total: 2350.
Reason for stopping: A page is what I expected out of myself, and a page is what I got.
Munchies: Mandarin oranges and cottage cheese.

Books in progress: Geoff Ryman, The Child Garden.
The glamour: Despite my avowed love of sleeping in, I really do prefer a 9:30-5:30 day to the 11-7 version. I got home and it was dark. This is suboptimal.

News! [livejournal.com profile] stillsostrange signed a three-book deal with Orbit, and you should each and every one of you go throw confetti and cute puppies at her! Go!

That is all from this working stiff!
So once upon a time they took away the Hockey Night in Canada theme, which was, as the man says, A Part of My Heritage.

However, the upside to this was that the CBC is having the Hockey Night in Canada Anthem Challenge, which is I guess like American Idol for hockey themes. And high school friend [livejournal.com profile] lonicus, who is by day seriously up-and-coming composer for orchestra, film, game soundtrack, and stage Kevin Lau, has put in an entry.

Take a listen, and if the spirit moves you, give it a rating.

This ends this official pimping announcement.

(Yes, all my friends are awesome.)
Everyone go congratulate [livejournal.com profile] matociquala on her nice new Hugo. :D
(no, not the river.)

I have via [livejournal.com profile] time_shark this morning that Amazon has made Clockwork Phoenix available early -- it's not yet the official release date, but nonetheless, anthology! So it is available for your breathless acquisition right this minute, and I recommend breathless acquisition, as it contains stories by Catherynne Valente ([livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna), Cat Rambo ([livejournal.com profile] catrambo), Laird Barron, Ekaterina Sedia ([livejournal.com profile] squirrel_monkey), Cat Sparks, Tanith Lee, Marie Brennan ([livejournal.com profile] swan_tower), Jennifer Crow ([livejournal.com profile] kythiaranos), Vandana Singh, John C. Wright, Erin Hoffman, ([livejournal.com profile] zhai), and yet more after that. I quail to be surrounded by such awesome.

Incidental to this, Amazon appears to have created a community to talk about me since my name is one of the tags on the Clockwork Phoenix sale entry. This disconcerts me greatly, especially the "Leah Bobet" Customer Images section. I went and tagged the rest of the anthologies I have stories and poetry in, like a good little self-promoter, so it's actually a pretty decent list of the Amazon-purchasable stuff. Keep that in mind while you're talking about how I eat worms and wear silly suspenders on the Leah Bobet forum. *g*

Shiny!

Jun. 9th, 2008 09:14 pm
[livejournal.com profile] stillsostrange is having a sale of shinies over at her livejournal, including several pieces that involve lampwork and artisan beads. As proceeds from this may be directed to the Getting Amanda to Readercon Fund, it is clearly a public good for you to go over there, purchase a shiny thing, and hug it to your chest upon its timely arrival.

Really. You're doing it for the team.

Go forth!
