The wrong turn is about 4,000 words long. Yes, a large portion of those will be repurposed later, or used for parts, so I'm not taking them out of my MS total yet. Still. Shit.

The causality's been snipped, and untangled, and reknitted, and what was this happens, and then this happens has been readjusted to the more appropriate and awesome this happens, so this happens (aka, Connie Willis Plotting). We are now going the right way. I know because a whole bunch of better ideas about motivations and consequences showed up, and it's talking to me again. Still took all afternoon, but hey. We're talking.

Is "Connie Willis plotting" your term? Or did she write about that somewhere? I first heard it from Trey Parker and Matt Stone's two-minute masterclass. (They suggest that "this happens BUT that happens" is also an option.)

I think it's one of those informal "our-term" things: I either heard about the "this happens, SO this happens, BUT this happens" concept from her on a panel, or from someone who had had it from her, I think. And it just got shorthanded to Connie Willis Plotting.
