Books in progress: David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas
Worked an especially long and involved week last week, involving several double shifts, so it's been quiet around here.
Have also managed a poem and some snippets of ideas, thanks to a good round of the picture game. Two rejections received (F&SF and Scifiction) and two stories gone back out. Read several books that haven't quite satisfied me on several levels, but I'm really liking Cloud Atlas so far: all the reviews I've read of it focused on the structural work, which is very funky, but none mentioned Mitchell's ability with voice and his sense of humour. 160 pages in and stupidly pleased with the thing. :) Hoping to follow it up with Coyote Kings of the Space-Age Bachelor Pad -- we had Minister Faust come in to the bookstore for a reading on Sunday, and the two selections he read were hilarious. Bookstore accident looms in my future.
Detailed book reports (and hopefully more words) to follow if I'm not too tired when I get home from work.
