Okay, I've been bitching a fair bit lately. Mostly merited, yeah, but no way to live your life. So.

Good Things:

1) Dug up the first Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker EP and popped it on this morning. I forgot how much I freaking like this band. Six songs on the thing, and I like three and love two. And this is their first baby-steps tentative indie EP.

2) Avgolemono with brown rice.

3) I got to chat with several divisions and brigades of The People at the Merril Collection Christmas Cream Tea this afternoon, including some I haven't seen in a couple years at least. There was scones and cream and jam and the singing of Lovecraftian Christmas carols. I am incredibly fortunate to have such a large and goofy SFF community in this town.

4) Dominion had sea salted dark chocolate and Green & Black's on sale for cheap, and good pears and bananas too.

5) My purple bamboo shrug is over half done.

6) There is hockey tonight and I will listen to it on the radio and fill my apartment with the smell of cooking things.

7) My panelist rebate from Worldcon came Thursday like Money From the Sky (tm).

8) I know smart people who do cool things.

9) I got to write last night and it made me feel clean and sharp.

10) All those first-world conveniences we don't mention overmuch, like central heating, warm wool socks, apple-ginger tea, and this Internet, but nonetheless appreciate in a sincere way and not that mealymouthed way where people tell you to not complain because what you have could be taken away; which we appreciate in the way you appreciate a simple gift.

And you?

I am remembering my Afternoon Hot Beverage with a success rate of 5/6 so far, in [livejournal.com profile] markgritter's absence. Usually he wanders in to say, "Are you about ready for some tea?" in the midafternoon, and I am much happier when I have tea or cocoa in the midafternoon this time of year, so I'm making an effort to remember while he's gone on his business trip. This counts as happy beverage and also happy self-care stuff.

And indeed there is hockey tonight, and I have started my Christmas cards and may do some of them in front of the hockey game.

The hockey game is infinitely useful for doing things in front of/around.

Yay good things! However...

7) My panelist rebate from Worldcon came Thursday like Money From the Sky (tm).

...Panelists get rebates? o.O Is this a new thing?

Oh wait, WORLDCON. *facepalm* I read Wiscon.

Hee. Yeah, no rebates for Wiscon. Worldcon, though, will sometimes refund you a chunk of that crazy money you paid to get in if the con makes money.

Small thing: I'm nearly done with the boring part of my brother's Christmas hat. (7" of 112 stitches around, on a needle that's not quite long enough for the Magic Loop, but not quite short enough to do regular circular knitting.) Soon, though, I will get to teach myself double-knitting!

Large thing: Second year of the new job, and I still like it a lot. After all the time I spent in Employment Hell, it's kind of a shock to realize that I'm looking forward to going to work.

I honestly can't listen to "regular" Christmas carols any longer without changing the words. *cough* But at least it makes holiday music tolerable (especially when it starts playing in October).

I mostly can't listen to it anymore, period. Too many years in retail. *shudder*

Good Things:

These cookies.

iTunes, for cheap, easily available retail therapy.

The weather in Los Angeles finally resembling something approaching not-summer.

1) I am AD for an upcoming production of an excellent play, we have a terrific cast who are doing really nifty stuff and we are right where we should be in the process to open next week.

2) Went to a friend's birthday party tonight and had a fine time- also came home with books.

3) Brownies. Just sayin'.

4) Oh! Biggest good thing today- spousal unit brought home the gently used top of the line washer and dryer he bought from a co-worker and I can haz laundry facilities again for the first time in a week.

5) Have 3 of the Yule presents I am giving family done but for weaving in ends and a hat about to come off the needles in about another hour of knitting.

Yes. I am in the total same position. I was thinking about going anyways, but New Year's stuff is at my place this year, so that's off the table.
