Get your first annual pension statement in the mail, which includes your early and normal retirement dates and what your pension would be (barring apocalypse) on this salary, if you retire then.

The date for the normal one is May 2047.

I admit I was expecting something entirely different when I read the header...

But I forget that I have two decades on you most of the time because, sadly, most of the time I don't really notice age. Unless I'm dealing with the very old or the very young.

Yeah, neither do I. It occasionally throws me a loop to remember/realize that some of my better friends are, well, my mother's contemporaries in age, not mine.

You'll reach a point where you'll be thinking, "Can I stand to work until I can get the full pension, or do I want to take the earliest and get less money?"

Trust me, some days I'd love the early retirement (I could retire in 7 more years for my minimum), but then I see the difference working for another 20 instead of the seven makes to the total per month, and I realize that unless my health makes it impossible, I'll go for the maximum.
