I should not be looking at rescue dogs online.

You could look here instead. Dogs to fall in love with, but they all have homes already. :)

I had the pleasure of cuddling with the photographer's German Wire-haired Pointer when I crashed on her futon a few weeks ago.

This will just make me want doggies more. :/

I'm very sorry. I understand the pull of doggie-hunger, and fear that I can be nothing but an enabler.

But rescue dogs need you...

(I have 2 rescue dogs of my own, and if I owned a house/yard I'd probably have 72 rescue dogs...)

They do. :( But I am juuuust starting to pay off my not-huge but still considerable student debt, and I live in a one-bedroom apartment.

Doggy. :(

It's less dangerous than looking at rescue dogs in person, isn't it?

[Lest someone who doesn't know me misunderstand this, I mean "dangerous" in the sense of "[livejournal.com profile] cristalia gets a dog she doesn't feel she can afford right now" rather than in the sense of "OMG rescue dogs will all bite your face off wah."]

It is. If I look at the doggies in person I run a severe risk of taking one home.

Remind yourself of this: if you hold off until spring, any house-training that's required can be done in much nicer weather. Getting Ista in July was so extremely much more fun than getting Boo in February.

And it is likely, by nicer weather, that I will be much less in debt.

Mmm. Affordable puppies.

I have a similar litany every time I do my dog-walking stint at the Humane Society:

I love you but I cannot take you home.
I love you but I cannot take you home.
I love you but I cannot take you home.
I love you but I cannot take you home.
I love you but I cannot take you home.

One of these days some irresistible mutt is going to force me to end that sentence after the first three words, though, and god help me when I have to break THAT news to the three cats.

Oh my, yes. [livejournal.com profile] stillsostrange told some colourful stories of cat-snit when she brought Gretchen home.

One of these days I'll be out of debt and then these lists of apartment-friendly doggies will be of practical use to me...

I feel your pain.
I almost have to wear blinders whenever I go into a local pet store that has adoption kitties hanging around.
