Having a nice visit from [livejournal.com profile] cvillette, who got in yesterday after I came back from Unexpected Work Shift! and made it here from the airport with minimum mishap. TTC airport service really still doesn't hold a candle to what you get on the Boston T, but we do fine. *g* It's funny how used I am to meeting people I only know from the internet and letting them into my home and private space: it's like you dropped a conversation in one room and are just picking it up in another, which happens to be in person, and you just have to get used to that meat bit being around.

These might serve to be my famous last words someday. Serial killers, please stop reading this LJ...now. ;)

So once we got around the "blah! you're a person!" bit, went to the Ethiopian place and murdered some injera and doro wat and a whole pot of the special coffee (of which I only got two or three little cuplets, as to not aggravate the caffeine thing) and then he went off to do whatever with the friends he was meeting up with this weekend.

I think he got back around seven this morning. I didn't look at the clock when I got up to let him in; a little grumpy about that, but hey, I do stop at giving Random Internet Friends my keys and I was given fair warning. And then the dentist called two hours later, and then my mother an hour after that, so I've been up much too much this morning already, and thus have been slushreading and doing some support mail while [livejournal.com profile] cvillette lieth dead on the futon behind me.

He's up now, and I don't think his flight's until tonight, so I will be in Houseguest Lurk Mode until tonight or tomorrow probably.

I'm thinking the Market, with the Indian Candy and the peameal sammiches and whatnot. And cheesy touristy shit, the Islands or the CN Tower. I think there was a vote for tall buildings/high things somewhere in there. *g*

Lunch! Out! Later!

For those not familiar with Shadow Unit, this is a little piece of interactive fiction re: that. [livejournal.com profile] inaurolillium has a pretty concise explanation here. So I do not actually have a houseguest this weekend, and alas, am not actually getting to go to the Ethiopian place, which I somehow never get to unless I have out-of-town people in.

Although if you come visit me, I will take you there. Yes, you. You want to go to the Ethiopian place. :p

Wow, and you weren't even cc'ed on that e-mail.

There was an e-mail with Ethiopian in it?

Alas, it was a strictly Minneapolis-local group. But there was consensus that we want to go to an Ethiopian place.

We have a lot of Somalis here, so it's a problem of being spoiled for choice rather than one of having nowhere to go.

Ooh.

We have...there are at least four places I know of, two of them almost next door to each other on College, but my favourite is in a little old converted house a few blocks away. Nom nom.

You should come here. We would feed you Ethiopian if you wanted it. Also in the category of Things People Don't Know We Have In Quantity: Vietnamese, various non-Mexican Hispanic cuisines. Nom.

I do want to come down your way at some point. There are enough people I know there that it would almost be guaranteed to be a really nice vacation.

Nomnomnomnom. I used to have a landlord who owned an Ethiopian place. He invited us there to sign the lease, and fed us. Who cared if water fell through the ceiling on a regular basis?

Oh, right... that would be me. But the food was almost worth it!

Mmmmmfood.

Yes, probably not worth the leaking ceiling, though. One can get one's own Ethiopian.

Hey, if you're ever in upstate NY and need someplace to crash, I've got you covered. (No, you don't know me, but I found your lj through Leah's a while back, and any internet friend of my internet friends is an internet friend of mine.)

Thank you for the offer. But don't you know it's dangerous to pick up strange men on the internet? (My mother used to pick up teenage hitch-hikers and lecture them, back in the 80s when there were still teenage hitch-hikers.)

Aww. I'm all jealous that I'm not a Chaz-friend too. Maybe someday, she said wistfully.

And "special coffee" sounds .. promising.

They make it pretty much from scratch for you; you have to order at the beginning of the meal. They roast the beans, grind them up, bring incense and this and that and the other. It's really, really good, and has a sort of underflavour that you don't get anywhere else.

Alright, blast it, where can I find your books? You're friends with Chaz and Bear and other people I like and respect, and you're reading my LJ, and now I want to read your stuff, but it's not in my local bookstores and it's not on Amazon, and where can a USian turn?

Oh. Eee. :)

What I have published is by and large short fiction, all of which is available at the bibliography on the official-like website (http://www.leahbobet.com). A good chunk of that's in online magazines; if you search my name in the fiction archive at Strange Horizons (http://www.strangehorizons.com) you'll find a good half-dozen stories. Read the bears one. The bears one is the best fun. *g*

There are books with my stuff in it, most recently Clockwork Phoenix (http://www.amazon.com/Clockwork-Phoenix-Tales-Beauty-Strangeness/dp/1934169986/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217298419&sr=8-1") and The Mammoth Book of Extreme Fantasy (http://www.amazon.com/Mammoth-Book-Extreme-Fantasy/dp/0762433833/ref=tag_tdp_sv_edpp_i"). Both of them are really damn good anthologies in their own right, and I have no idea why they let me in there *ahem*.
