July 19, 2006 Progress Notes:

The Earthly Ascension of Ducky Cheung

Words today: 1050.
Words total: 2300.
Reason for stopping: That was hard. And I need a plot now.
Tea: Iced dragonfruit sencha.
Munchies: Leftover spaghetti.
Exercise: 25 minutes elliptical, weights.
Mail: Contributor's copies for the 2006 Summer issue of On Spec, which has "Lagtime" in it. Which, incidentally, I am writing the sequel to right now. *g*
Other Writing-Related Work: Crits for [livejournal.com profile] jmeadows and [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, mass answering of the e-mail I've let stagnate this week, lots of slush. Pondered buying my WFC membership already.
Darling du Jour: "My seven years of exile's up, hmm?" He says, mangled African British and a peculiar flattened vowels that must be what North America does to you, the same way London plays hell with sharp North Korean vowels. Everyone's always taking over someone else's country in the back of your mouth.
Tyop du Jour: N/A
Words MS Word Doesn't Know: scumsucker, phisher, uplinked, googly
Mean Things: Familial discomfort, several kinds of generation gap, being forced out of your own playground, hot sex with smartassed men who know they can get away with their smartassery, thus confirming one has a bad-boy complex.
Books in progress: Tobias S. Buckell, Crystal Rain; Iain M. Banks, The Algebraist; Sarah Monette, The Virtu
The glamour: Did dishes. Paid bills. Watched baby pigeons. *g*

So, I happen to know a whole bunch of people (aside from [livejournal.com profile] elisem) who make pretty shiny jewelery and can occasionally be persuaded to part with it in return for instruments of currency. Behold the shinies!

[livejournal.com profile] sosostris2012 is having a shiny sale right this very moment, in fact, through her Flickr account. Mostly semi-precious and precious stone strung pieces, a lot of these have already sold pretty quickly -- but she can probably be persuaded to make you one too.

[livejournal.com profile] dolphin__girl and [livejournal.com profile] ksumnersmith are collectively Stellar Magpie Creations, who you may have seen if you've been to any craft fairs/SF conventions in the Greater Toronto Area this year. They have their own LJ too, at [livejournal.com profile] stellar_magpie. They do the usual run of strung pieces, earrings, and tiaras, but really, really kick ass at the sculptural work. It has made me whimper with covetousness and materialism.

[livejournal.com profile] mekkavandexter runs the Makeshift Daisy Bauble Company (their blog here), specializing in funky, pretty bracelets and earrings made with artisan lampwork beads -- so not only are these one of a kind, the individual components are too. Like Mekka herself, these are idiosyncratic, stylin', and just plain neat.

[livejournal.com profile] sarcasm_hime is the proprietor of Magpie Creations -- not to be confused with the above -- which specializes in more delicate strung work, tiaras, and some traditional Japanese fashion accessories.

[livejournal.com profile] stillnotbored does not, in fact, have a corporate entity, but has been known to make very nice semiprecious strung necklaces. I got one for my birthday once. :) She is usually quite busy, but could possibly be persuaded to do a few special orders.

Go forth! Purchase fine shinies from these worthy individuals! Get in touch with your inner sparkly thing!
