Given:

People change. But people change slowly, by increments, and do not necessarily perceive changes in themselves while they happen. It takes something that makes one step back and reevaluate oneself to challenge a person's concept of self and to perceive a change.

Therefore:

Points of conflict in a story are not necessarily situations that change a character, but ones that show them how much they have already changed from their perceptions of themselves.

This is important.
