"The Girl From Another World", my dual-barrelled take on grubby apartments and genre conventions, is live this week at Strange Horizons.

Read! Enjoy! Throw rocks, thoughts, and interesting criticism!*

And what, exactly, do you have hanging on that utility belt?

I don't want a utility belt. Just some cute Batman panties. How's a girl to get by without a nice comforting bat-signal on her butt?

She could always have someone shine the bat-signal on her moon.

So now you're bringing moonshine into it, hmm?

Navy blue, alas. We tried for black but it wasn't happening at the time.

I liked the tone. Also, the descriptions were very evocative: I could almost imagine I smelled the waitress and that basement. And the restaurant! I worked there once. Thank goodness it was just a crap HS job and not my sole source of income because I only lasted a month.

Heh -- I based it off a place a few blocks from me. I've never been in back, but the food strives hard to be mediocre and it's always empty.
