Novelette finished (!) and sent out to The People for critique and kicking, and I feel a bit like I've been kicked myself. Part of which is mild caffeine reaction and some upcoming deadline issues -- whenever I have a paper due I do a certain amount of thrashing beforehand -- but this afternoon just took it out of me. Writing is hard. Harder than it used to be.

But I have Finished A Thing, and no longer have to get on my own ass about not actually doing any writing while styling myself a person who writes.

Now, beer and the very difficult judging of the "X for Y" contest.

Hee, thanks. Soon I can revise it and send it to all five markets that consider novelettes. :p

I suppose it could be worse. It could be a novella...

I keep a ritual suicide blade sharpened and ready for that eventual day.

I keep watching the word count on my current WiP with trepidation. It's starting to look like it will end up somewhere between 20 and 25K.

I may need to borrow that ritual blade...

Just remember, unlike standard advice, it's across, not vertically. *g*

Just hold the blade and cut like so and novella will go away

Just "novella" is fine. There is only one, and its many tendrils seep into the lives of writers the world over, to sap joy and feast on despair.

Or more likely there are many, but only one of them will see print this year due to magazine budgets. :p

Yes, that certainly is the literal interpretation that destroys the joke. Thank you. >:(

Ah! Novellas are Lovecraftian monsters. That makes perfect sense.
