Should you get a chance, the Botanical Gardens and the Nitobe Memorial Garden out at the university are very pretty, too. The B-line down Granville will get you to the university, and it's maybe a 10 min walk to the Nitobe (and there's a shuttle from in front of the rec center to the Botanical Gardens if you don't want to try to walk there).
Despite being a prairie girl at heart (and by birth), I find myself missing Vancouver at the strangest times. Admittedly, mostly when it's -40 and my eyelashes have frozen to my eyelids, but still.
