The difference for me is that Harry Potter is an empowering series--about kids, both boys and girls, taking action to fight the bad guys when adults are unwilling or unable to help--while Twilight is disempowering for women, about submerging one's identity for the sake of a boyfriend who possesses all the power and makes all the decisions.
