The gasping breathing you hear from this direction is sticker shock.

Today my major accomplishment was to go to my optometrist appointment and finally get myself a new pair of glasses (okay, I had dinner at my parents' too since the optometrist is a three-minute walk from their house and an hour by transit from mine, but that is not an accomplishment).

This was necessary and good because I haven't had a current-prescription pair of glasses for...thirteen years now, which is about when I got my contacts and ran off with them into a brave new world of peripheral vision. And any fule kno that having just contacts when you're as nearsighted as I am, no backup glasses, is like juggling lit matches.

But...I kind of forgot how much glasses cost. Oh my sweet god, my wallet hurts. Let's not even try to bail it out. It's kinder just to let it sink.

Anyways. Here are my new glasses, which shall be ready end of this week or beginning of next:
