Something in my backbrain has smelled fall in the air today, because the nesting urge kicked in: today I have been cooking. And cooking and cooking and cooking and stopping to take out the green bin, because it's full, changing the album on the stereo, cranking it up loud, and cooking.
The dust's settled a bit, and left me a full batch of beef/shiitake/green onion Chinese buns, currently rising on the counter, a batch of chili adulterated from a James Barber recipe, raspberry sour cream muffins, and a refill of my Bottomless Gazpacho Container. There may still be a tuna casserole pending. I was going to do chicken stroganoff too, but I'm out of sour cream and it's not very good sour cream anyway. This is good and timely, since the dayjob kicks back into busy mode on Tuesday and having fifteen lunches ready to go in the fridge is better than the alternative.
My hands ache a bit from kneading. It feels profoundly peaceful.
Also, since it's the first Sunday of the month, there is a new Shadow Unit episode for your delectation: "Smoke and Mirrors", by
matociquala.
Since I haven't posted the spiel in a while, Shadow Unit is an interactive online hyperfiction environment, of sorts. Or, more clearly, it's fanfiction for a TV show that doesn't exist, currently written by a cast of award-nominated-and-winning SFF authors including
coffeeem,
matociquala,
truepenny,
stillsostrange,
blackholly, and myself. It's licensed under creative commons, with an active fan community (who are also excellent cooks) and a whole lot of fun.
I like to read it while eating my chili. Nom nom.
