And now, a convention schedule.
Mar. 13th, 2009 06:54 pmMy preliminary Ad Astra programming schedule, it is as follows:
Sat, 3:00 PM
Salon 241
Inherently Sexist?
Calvin Climie (MOD), Violette Malan, Leah Bobet, Marc Mackay
Are SF, fantasy, and horror inherently sexist? Are these genres more or less sexist than society in general? Can a more level playing field be fostered for characters by, for example, valuing intelligence and planning over brute strength?
Sun 10:00 AM
Ballr. East
Conflict Within
Michael R. Colangelo (MOD), Leah Bobet, Eve Silver, Douglas Smith, Nick DiChario
Conflict doesn't have to be violent; it doesn't even need to involve more than one character. Panelists discuss how to write convincing internal conflict.
Sun 11:00 AM
Ballr. East
Colonialism in SF
Calvin Climie (MOD), Timothy Zahn, Anna Davour, Leah Bobet, Gerald Mackenzie
Colonizing the stars...is it the birthright of humanity? In a world suffering the ecological and social consequences of colonialism, past and present, is it responsible to promote this philosophy?
I note of the three(?) equity issues panels at the con, I'm on two of them. This could prove interesting.
Either way, if you're going to be there, consider showing up to witness me spouting off about things! Apparently it's more fun in person than it is over the medium of these great internets! Also, apparently they bagged Nigel Bennett as a guest, and I will be probably devoting some time to embarrassing myself over that.
Or, y'know. I'll be in the bar. *g*
