The haul, sir, the haul
Sep. 13th, 2008 12:40 pmIt's been a long time since I've had proper weekends. I haven't operated on the 9-5, Monday-to-Friday template for a very long time, since three weeks after my sixteenth birthday when I got my first Official part-time job (there were unofficial part-time jobs before that, but they were occasional labour and paid strictly under the table. Also periods of complete unemployment, but when every day is look for work and write and don't get dressed 'til noon, it doesn't count as a weekend).
So I've been, for the past few weeks, enjoying the concept of Weekend. Particularly, the bit with the Saturday morning farmers' market at St. Lawrence Market. I think I set a land speed record for the spending of my grocery money today.
The haul:
Basket of peaches
Two containers raspberries
Roma tomatoes
Little red potatoes
Shallots
Sugarsnap peas
Beeeeeans
Sage cheddar
All the dolmades in the world. Sorry if you wanted dolmades today, but they're mine and I'm not sharing.
Grilled eggplant wrapped around sundried tomatoes wrapped around feta cheese. With a little garlic on them. Om nom.
Indian candy
Two dozen sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies, some of which are my lunch right now.
A cheese blintz, consumed upon reentry.
This is a small haul, since I still have meat and fish and staples from last week. But it pleaseth me, and I shall roll in the fields with it and rejoice until next Saturday, when I will be out of dolmades again. But really, you want to be at my house today. It's a wonderful place to be.
And now after all my talk of lovely lovely weekends, I must get moving to work Julie Czerneda's book launch this afternoon at the bookstore.
(It's like being a spy. You never really leave the bookstore.)
