20th Century Marketing Scams Exposed!
Aug. 29th, 2007 12:15 pmI have my shocking fact for today, and it's only noon. Instant oatmeal? Giant scam.
You see, having acquired a recipe from some of my extracurricular LJ reading*, I have made my first batch of oatmeal from actual rolled oats on the stove. And it did not take perceptibly longer than the instant stuff. Actually, about the same, because the kettle-boiling time for the instant is the oatmeal-cooking time in the pot.
I can only conclude that real oatmeal is in fact also instantaneous and doesn't taste like fake sugar to boot**. Also, my big bag of rolled oats that I just maybe dipped into this morning? Cost a dollar. One. There is zero advantage to the instant kind.
I am reminded of somewoman man in a cookbook that either I owned or someone read to me once belongs to
ringwoodcomics, where she he was saying in a pancake recipe that the American public must have been terribly alienated from the kitchen to ever produce such a thing as instant pancake mix, because it's just flour and water and eggs and then you mix it, geniuses.
Whatshe he said.
Oh real oatmeal, I shall never go back. :D
*There are a few people on others' friendslists that I read casually, just haven't friended myself because they don't know me and it'd be creepy.
**I have a spoonful of honey and some sliced strawberries in it. It's num.
