The "sandbox" up there is not a literal sandbox, it's a mental one. I've been writing a lot of one kind of story lately, so
matociquala assigned me to write a non-fabulist science fiction story set in an institution of some sort -- pretty much the opposite of what I've been doing for the past year. I'm thinking part of my morose poutiness over that stagnant feeling I get has been about playing too much in the same sandbox, now. My brain feels all stretched and warmed up. It feels niiiice.
Also, please tell me if you feel that this title is a stupid title.
As well, things did in fact happen in the world while I was sick and hiding my snarly face from the world. (We are pleased to report food has stayed put for a good two and a half days now and energy is up higher than the level of a hibernating bear, so we are declaring No Longer Sick.) One of these was that Ideomancer's new quarterly issue has been posted, with stories by:
Keri Bas;
Ruth Nestvold;
and Yoon Ha Lee
and poetry by:
Tina Connolly;
Lane Adamson;
and Mikal Trimm
as well as an interview with Alan de Niro and five book reviews.
I personally loved with love four-sixths of this issue when they were naught but baby slush (the other two went to other people in the slush doling-out), thus you should go read it and enjoy. :)
Also, hop over to the
ideomancer LJ community to give love, throw stones, discuss, and read the New and Improved Guidelines that are now in effect.
