CSA blogging. Really. Maybe.

June 12, 2012 Progress Notes:

"Wild Card"

Words today: 1400.
Words total: 4900.
Reason for stopping: It's midnight, and I was hit-the-ground-running by ten this morning, so I am kind of tired and going to bed to read noir books.

Books in progress: Ross Macdonald, The Galton Case.

Among other things, today was the first day of summer CSA (and the crowd cheers: CSA! CSA!). That means the season of fridge austerity, when I tried to eat my freezer soup and not buy groceries for a week or so, is now over, to be replaced by the season of:

4 stalks rhubarb
1 head lettuce
1 quart field greens
1 quart jerusalem artichokes
1 kale
1 bunch spring onions
1 bunch beets
6 duck eggs
6 chicken eggs
1/2 pound chanterelle mushrooms

And bought as extras:

1 bunch asparagus
1 bunch carrots

Yes, we are going to attempt CSA blogging again. Let's see if my attention span and my camera software hold out this time.

And...go!

Damn, I want your CSA. Duck eggs and chanterelles...?

Mushrooms are new this year. :) It's a half-pound of mushrooms, based on what Mushroom Dude brings, all wild-gathered.

CSA! CSA! I don't have one this year (next year I mean to remedy that) but I have planted baaaby apple trees and we gathered up all the wild black raspberries on the property and threw them in a DIY planter to protect them from the ravages of the seventeen million deer, and I have a pretty pathetic container garden going on the deck, which sounds better than it is until you see how far these plants have actually progressed (sugar snap peas, kale, tomatoes, cilantro, jalapenos, all heirloom, some local heirloom). Also have just learned that you can regrow scallions and celery apparently indefinitely, so I have a scallion forest in a repurposed pot. ALSO I MADE MISO FINALLY FINALLY. And I have a lead on a 35yo sourdough starter someone locally is offering, and and and. Amazing how the real life stuff brain kicks back in when I'm between writing projects, which seem to sweep all the nonessential real life stuff straight off the table. Heh.

Oh man. You're like your own CSA right there. *envy*

I also went to the farmer's market at the foot of my street today and there were STRAWBERRIES.

We went picking strawberries last week! And JV got the first black raspberry of the season out of our crappy planter today. :D
