January 25, 2007 Progress Notes:

The Patron Saint of Nothing

Words today: 825.
Words total: 26,900 MS Word.
Reason for stopping: Quota! And Case abruptly clammed up, and I am too tired to chase him.
Liquid Refreshment: Water.
Munchies: Tuna casserole.
Exercise: An hour walking.
Mail: Nomail.

Darling du Jour: Astringent. Once he sorted the flecks of dirt from it, astringent. It was salty with the flavour of a sailor for a father whose father had been a sailor before him, ...long enough back that the wind had beaten salt spray into and through their skins and it flowed in their blood inheritance.
Tyop du Jour: N/A
Words MS Word Doesn't Know: N/A

Mean Things: Case: Surgery recovery.
Zithembe: Someone rich just got wounded in the riot you're investigating, and now you're head's gonna be on a platter if they get killed. Enjoy! *g*

Today in Acquisition, aka The Class Where Only Five People Contribute Out Of A Hundred, we watched the first half of a documentary that's pretty much just a basic layman's intro to linguistics proper. And it had Chomsky, and Stephen Jay Gould, and a bunch of linguist types talking, and then there on my screen was [livejournal.com profile] ozarque! And I sat bolt upright and said to my friend beside me: "Hey, I know her!" with a big smile on my face.

It is sometimes a not-unpleasant feeling when worlds collide. *g*

I first met her out at a con in Los Angeles when I was in my late teens and hanging out with the southern California Elvish speakers.

And then again a couple years ago when we were both guests at ConQuesT in Kansas City. I was moderating a panel that she was on, and when I allowed the panel to wander off topic she berated me (and correctly so) right there in the middle of the panel.

Hee. The shot had Suzette knitting in a nice chair. She appeared very grandmotherly. My friend said: "Oh, that's nice, she looks nice," and I replied "she is, and I would think five times before crossing her." *g*

What? There are more linguist-writers out there?

Apparently buckets. *g* I actually got into this field mostly because of the influence of [livejournal.com profile] maradydd, [livejournal.com profile] klingonguy, and Viewers Like You.
